Consent to Corrib gas pipeline is act of national treachery

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | press release author Tuesday March 01, 2011 18:34author by Saoirse - Republican Sinn Féinauthor email saoirse at iol dot ieauthor address Teach Dáithí Ó Conaill, 223 Parnell St, Dublin 1author phone 01 8729747 Report this post to the editors

Statement by the President of Republican Sinn Féin Des Dalton

The decision of the outgoing 26-County Energy Minister Pat Carey to sign consents for the last section of the controversial Corrib gas pipeline is an act of national treachery by a defunct and discredited regime.

The people of the 26 Counties have been auctioned to the IMF/ECB and EU Commission by a 26-County administration which at the same time is giving away natural resources that belong as of right to the Irish people. As usual the 26-County
State protects the interests of international capitalism while trampling over the rights of communities.

Any rhetoric about change by the incoming 26-County administration –likely to be made up of Fine Gael and Labour – will be tested immediately on this issue. Experience tells us their actions will fall far short of their promises.

The revolutionary change that would uphold the right of the people of Ireland to the ownership of Ireland will never be delivered in Leinster House. The ownership of our natural resources is the cornerstone of a New Ireland as set out in Republican Sinn Féin’s programme for political, social and economic democracy Éire Nua and Saol Nua.

Why sign off on a highly controversial project, which faces judicial review, on your last day in office? What is the gain? Who benefits? Not the nation. Not the state.

SOmeone once said, if you're mystified about a decision, follow the money. Ask, who benefits. The answer here is, Shell and Statoil.

Call Pat Carey on 087 2574393 and ask who benefits - it's his mobile and he tends to answer it himself. Because this is outrageous.

In his last days Hitler was examining his model of the "Perfect Berlin".
A sports staduim ( football pitch) was at the centre.

Yawn.

For the same reason that NIgerian ministers green-lighted every wish-list of the same corporate paymaster. Right down to the lynchings, to order.

Not much notice taken by our mainstream media of the Wiki revelations of the depth of penetration of Shell into the echelons of Nigeria's parliamentarians. But then, they buy journalists and editors too. When you rip off that many billions, its not a big deal to kick back a few grand here and there. Good business practise. Oils the wheels, so to speak. Tops up Pat's nest-egg from the taxpayers, along with whatever was spread from the developers dropsy.
