It's not 'CSE'. It's child rape, says Joanna Gray. Enough with the sterile acronyms that seem designed to conceal the horror. Enough of the "bewitchment of our intelligence by means of language" (Wittgenstein).

It's going to take more than a Supreme Court judgment to flush gender pseudoscience out of the NHS, says Caroline Ffiske. In every policy and definition the NHS has dropped biological sex in favour of subjective feelings.

Joe Higgins launching Socialist Party’s Limerick election challenge

category limerick | politics / elections | event notice author Sunday October 31, 2010 16:06author by Limerick Socialist Partyauthor email limericksocialist at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Joe Higgins will be speaking in Limerick on Tuesday November 2nd at 7.45pm in Pery's Hotel (Glentworth Street) at a public rally launching the Socialist Party's election challenge in the city. The rally, on "Fighting the Cuts & Building the Alternative" will also be addressed by Cian Prendiville, the Socialist Party's first ever Dáil candidate in Limerick.
Fight the Cuts & Build the Alternative
Fight the Cuts & Build the Alternative

Explaining why he is standing, Cian Prendiville said "This government has got to go. They are bankrupting the country with their bank bailouts and trying to make ordinary people pay with a savage four year austerity plan, but the official opposition of Fine Gael and Labour are offering no real change in policy. They have all signed up to the same four year plan of cuts. Unfortunately, even Sinn Féin have agreed to the plan, albeit wanting to spread the cuts out over six years.

"What is clear, however, is that taking €15 billion out of the economy by slashing jobs and services and imposing new taxes on ordinary workers will only do one thing – reduce demand and make the economy and unemployment much worse.

"In Limerick this will impact particularly severely where unemployment, particularly youth unemployment with two out of every three young men out of work in the city, is already a critical issue that needs to be tackled. As a young and unemployed person, I will make a stand on this issue and demand that we let the bankers, bondholders and developers who are responsible for the economic crash take their losses and, instead, use those vast sums to invest in essential services, infrastructure and job creation."

We would encourage all those who live in and around Limerick and want to see a real fight back built to come to the rally and find out about the alternative and how you can get involved in building the fight back. If you can't make it but would like to help out, then email Cian at cian@socialistparty.net.
