Solar power requires 700 times the land of nuclear power to produce the same amount of energy, calculates Ben Pile. And it still won't work in the dark. When will we recognise the immense folly of renewable energy?

Anglo Irish Protest & Garda Attack

category national | anti-capitalism | news report author Monday May 17, 2010 14:59author by Séamus Report this post to the editors

"On Saturday (May 15) the true nature of the Twenty-Six County state was once again exposed as the Garda violently attacked those who dare to oppose NAMA, the bank bailouts and the savage programme of cutbacks.

"The Garda response to éirígí’s protest was not the result of an operational blunder or lack of experience. The decision to attack peaceful protesters was both premeditated and well planned. And more importantly is was highly political. The Dublin government have clearly decided that the emerging resistance to their right wing economic policies must be crushed before it grows stronger."

A full report from Saturday's éirígí protest against NAMA and the bank bail-outs, and the Garda attack on it, can now be read at http://www.eirigi.org/latest/latest160510.html

There's also a photo essay on the site that captures many of the day's events, at http://www.eirigi.org/latest/latest170510.html

Garda Attack Anglo Irish Protest

Anybody that gives a damn about the future of this country should take a look at this video. It is clear that what happened at Anglo on Saturday was far more serious than the scuffle at Leinster House on Tuesday night. The corporate media have clearly decided to play this one down - with good cause. Dozens of cops deployed to remove four people and a banner. Dozens more attacking people in broad daylight on Dawson Street. I believe that members of the public (including at least one older citizen) were verbally lashing the cops out of it for what they were doing.

good to get that on video. disgraceful how a few people having a peaceful protest on Anglo's porch (afterall we all own Anglo!) got abused. they should ahve been left.

don't think "let the banks burn" is a good slogan. It raises questions about jobs in banks. What is Éirigí's position on bank workers? also people think about their small savings in banks and instantly ask questions when you shout "let the banks burn"

Earlier, there were minor scuffles with gardaí when Éirígí commenced a march past Anglo Irish Bank.

Gardaí had cordoned off the bank while the garda mounted unit and plain clothed officers patrolled the area.
