The Hidden Mechanisms of Unfreedom Wed May 14, 2025 15:41 | Alex Klaushofer
When politicians claim the public supports extreme measures like banning meat or digital ID you can be sure that behind it is a Citizens' Assembly or other dubious method for manufacturing 'consent', says Alex Klaushofer.

Saving Greenery From the Greens Wed May 14, 2025 13:00 | Sean Walsh
Greens have hijacked environmental concern and turned it into a branch of radical Leftist politics. But in truth conservatism cares about conserving our home. Conservatives need to reclaim green politics, says Sean Walsh.

The problem with posting a false detail is that then detractors can point to that falsehood and use it to call into doubt the rest of what you are saying.
THAT the Israelis aren't doing. They appear to be first calling the house with a warning and then immediately before the real attack, "knocking on the roof" (dropping a practice mortar round on it, just enough explosive charge to make a bang).
so...you say the Israelis politely call you up and make a big bang through your flimsy roof with a weak but loud mortar shell before then obliterating your home with high explosive. I guess they also politely ask can they systematically destroy the water plant and the electricity generating station too.
Well what mannerly gentlemen! I guess that makes it all right then....all the systematic destruction of infrastructure and the completely disproportionate use of force on an effectively helpless trapped population and the ridiculous casualty ratio of 600:20 and the thousands injured. It must be all their own fault they are killed and injured so and not the fault of a vicious aggressor Israel raining down all the high explosive bombs and illegal flechette shells on them.
"You have only yourself to blame. Or Hamas. It's nothing to do with Israel. We just dropped all the bombs, lobbed all the shells and and fired all the shots. The fact that we dropped a few bits of paper and sent a few texts and made some loud noises first as ass covering PR, well that completely absolves us of any responsibility for subsequent violence. We're the good guys"
Sorry but clearly that's just a completely cynical crock of shit and hardly anybody with even one working brain cell falls for it any more except maybe perhaps a portion of the US fox news watching public who sadly continue to fund the apartheid state of Israel to the tune of 3 billion in military aid each year which greatly helps to fund these regular murderous ethnic cleansing romps on the part of Israel, with their pompus stupid names.
So what would YOUR solution be, Fred? Preferably one that brings about peace and security for all sides. And one that has some hope of being accepted by all sides. Or at least by a majority of people on all sides.
Well it certainly wouldn't involve using illegal flechette shells on women and children
or bombing schools full of children and UNWRA staff
And it certainly wouldn't involve the systematic erosion of palestinian lands while pretending to
be interested in "peace talks"
For starters I would procure myself a bullet proof vest a helmet an a food taster.
Then I would call a cease fire, withdraw from Gaza, cease settlement building, open the sea borders and other crossings , relax trade restrictions completely. rebuild electricity and water infrastructure. release all the thousands of prisoners unconditionally, release all outstanding tax money to Gaza, rebuild and reopen Gaza airport, call a meeting to Ratify palestine statehood in the UN
Begin an honest negotiation based on a two state solution clearly defined pre 1967 borders agreement, acknowledgement of Israel's right to exist.
Join the NPT and Decommission all my nukes and allow Iranian weapon inspectors to help supervise.
then sit back and observe the shockwave percolate through the middle east, EU and the US
see if Palestinians respond in kind to this different approach.
Work it from there with the objective being fair play and a lasting peace between the two nations
Worth a try perhaps?? ;-)
